  1. Introducing Kate

    October 29, 2013 by frecklesandsunshine

The biggest event of 2013 for our family will by far be the birth of Katherine Elizabeth. Born on June 26, she weighed 7 lbs 13 oz and was 21.75 inches long. She is named after both of our paternal grandmothers. Tim’s grandmother, Katherine, and my grandmother, Elsie Elizabeth.

My pregnancy was relatively uneventful. Unlike my pregnancy with Olivia, I did not have any extra monitoring and everything went smoothly. The birth was a bit more exciting. My blood pressure bottomed out right after Kate was born and she had trouble stabilizing her body temperature. Everything was resolved fairly quickly, but it was a bit nerve wracking for a few moments.

Kate, as we call her, is the sweetest, happiest baby. She cries at the typical times, for the typical reasons, but otherwise she looks like this 24/7.

Olivia was content and happy, but this girl has given us more smiles and giggles in four months than O gave us in her first year!

At four months old now, she smiles, giggles, squeals and squawks, reaches for toys, holds up her head, rolls in both directions, sits when propped, and “stands” while supported. You know, just your basic genius. :)

I can’t wait to see who she turns out to be.

  2. Labor Day Weekend

    September 8, 2011 by frecklesandsunshine

We had a great family weekend. Lots of adventures and quality time together. That’s what three day weekends are for, right?

On Monday, we had every intention of going to downtown Louisville for the Labor Day Parade. It is their 76th, which I find fairly impressive for a town of this size.

Sadly, the parade coincided with morning nap time. Olivia’s, not ours. We joined up with the fun at the Community Park though. There were vendor booths, live music, a kids play area with climbing walls and bounce houses, and a….splash pad!

You remember #32, don’t you? You know, “Take Olivia to the splash pad on Pearl Street Mall once she is walking. (Any day now.)” Well, my friends, that day has come. I know, I know. It’s not Pearl Street Mall. But, with only 16 days left of summer, I’m going to take what I can get.

Besides, homegirl is a walking machine! Bonus: she loves bath time. Obviously, when you combine those two things you get a child who will race into a splash pad all giggles and splashing.

    Or not.

This was about as close as she got on her own two feet. Even in Daddy’s arms she wasn’t quite sure at first.

She warmed up to it eventually, but never really toddled around like I was expecting.

Ah, well. There’s always next summer!

  3. Summer Fun List Update

    September 2, 2011 by frecklesandsunshine

Just because a girl goes back to work doesn’t mean she’s all teach and no fun, you know. If we teachers didn’t make time for fun, we would lose our minds.

And, yes, I realize Labor Day is on Monday and that is the symbolic end of summer. I, however, am giving myself until the first official day of fall to complete as much of my list as possible. For those of you keeping track, that’s September 23rd.

Until then, here’s an update on what has been crossed off the list in the last few weeks.
