  1. Kate, 5 months

    December 9, 2013 by frecklesandsunshine

Whew! It has been a busy couple weeks. We traveled to Champaign, IL for Thanksgiving. It was lovely to spend the holiday with family. Then, as soon as we got back to St. Louis, it was time to start preparing for Christmas. As usual, the years are short and the days are long.

In the midst of it all, our baby girl turned 5 months old. Everyone tells you that the time flies by and that’s true. I have to say, though, it seems more true for Kate than it did for Olivia. Maybe it is because I have another child to share my attention or maybe we are just busier as a family, but gosh, wasn’t she just born yesterday??

  2. Olivia: An Update

    October 28, 2013 by frecklesandsunshine

Last you saw of our big girl, she had just turned one and was getting ready to start daycare full time.

She is, as she has always been, the light of our lives. She is funny, talkative, and stubborn. She is adventurous, but with self-imposed limits that keep her safe, thank goodness.

She still doesn’t sleep through the night without waking at least once and most nights comes into our room to sleep with us. Life is easier with a king size bed.

Olivia is smart as whip with an amazing imagination.

She loves her dog and her little sister.

She is, above all else, her daddy’s girl.

She has continued to take swimming lessons in the summer. She took an art class last fall and just finished her first tennis lessons.

We are blessed to be her parents.

  3. Olivia’s First Birthday Party

    August 30, 2011 by frecklesandsunshine

This blog has been very Olivia-centric of late. It is her first birthday, and as her mother, I think the heavy rotation of posts about her is totally justifiable.

If, however, you are here for posts on food, crafts, hikes, or other random occurrences in our life, well just hang in there. Our regularly scheduled programming will return shortly.

  4. Weekend Reading

    July 31, 2011 by frecklesandsunshine

If you can look at the above picture and not think, “Expelliarmus!” or “I solemnly swear I am up to no good”, then we can no longer be friends. Nice knowin’ ya!

Tim posted this awesome video on Facebook this week. I really admire this kind of creativity. It was a helluva imagination to come up with this. Oh, and I like the music, too.

The New Belgium Brewery, just north of us in Fort Collins, produces one of my favorite beers, Fat Tire. They also host drive in movies on their lawn. Except that by drive they mean bike. You ride your bike to the brewery, bring a blanket or chair, and kick back with a brew and some cinema. This season they have Blues Brothers, Fast Times, and Swingers on tap. Sigh, if only Fort Collins wasn’t so far away.

Religion is a serious thing, but it doesn’t need to be taken so seriously all of the time. If you’re having trouble explaining scripture to your kids, read this for some tips.

  5. Mad Creek Mamas

    July 25, 2011 by frecklesandsunshine

When you become a mother, it can be all consuming. It is very easy to get so caught up in your child and the rest of life’s trappings that you forget to take time for yourself. Whether you sneak out of the house for a walk or coffee, go to the gym, shop ’til you drop, or have a spa day, the time you spend on your own recharging is invaluable. It makes you a better mother, a better wife, and a better person.

My friend, Jenn, and I had talked about having an overnight staycation while the guys took care of the kids. Instead, we took both families up to Steamboat Springs where Jenn and Dave have a condo. Our family has been up to the Steamboat condo a number of times, most recently for a snowshoeing adventure.

Jenn and I had Saturday to ourselves while the guys wrangled the ankle biters. Steamboat in summer is chock-full of activities. Mountain biking, fishing, hiking…the list goes on and on. We started our day with a hike.
