  1. A Day on the Farm

    November 25, 2013 by frecklesandsunshine

I’ve always loved to travel. Whether it is a short day trip or a long backpack through Europe, I’m thrilled to explore new places. The opportunity to explore and discover new things is one of the advantages to having lived in three different states in three years.

Living here in St. Louis, I can make these discoveries almost daily without even leaving the city or county limits. I had been to St. Louis before we moved here but really only as an airport stop before driving on to Champaign where Tim’s family lives. Now that we have two beautiful girls our travels aren’t as exotic as they used to be, but witnessing the joy of discovery through their eyes is totally worth it.

A couple weeks ago, Olivia, Kate, and I ventured out to Purina Farms. Nestle Purina is headquartered here in St. Louis and they have a “farm” on the outskirts of town. Since we had been reading and studying about farms with a preschool learning kit from our local library, Purina Farms seemed like a good place to expose her to some farm animals even though this isn’t a real working farm. Add in the free factor and we were sold.

Purina Farms is about a 30 minute drive from our home, but it is just far away enough to feel like a “trip” and to lend it a more rural feel.

  2. Olivia: An Update

    October 28, 2013 by frecklesandsunshine

Last you saw of our big girl, she had just turned one and was getting ready to start daycare full time.

    Since then…

    Olivia was baptized…

    Turned two…

    Turned three…

    Started preschool.

She is, as she has always been, the light of our lives. She is funny, talkative, and stubborn. She is adventurous, but with self-imposed limits that keep her safe, thank goodness.

She still doesn’t sleep through the night without waking at least once and most nights comes into our room to sleep with us. Life is easier with a king size bed.

Olivia is smart as whip with an amazing imagination.

She loves her dog and her little sister.

She is, above all else, her daddy’s girl.

She has continued to take swimming lessons in the summer. She took an art class last fall and just finished her first tennis lessons.

  3. Labor Day Weekend

    September 8, 2011 by frecklesandsunshine

We had a great family weekend. Lots of adventures and quality time together. That’s what three day weekends are for, right?

On Monday, we had every intention of going to downtown Louisville for the Labor Day Parade. It is their 76th, which I find fairly impressive for a town of this size.

Sadly, the parade coincided with morning nap time. Olivia’s, not ours. We joined up with the fun at the Community Park though. There were vendor booths, live music, a kids play area with climbing walls and bounce houses, and a….splash pad!

You remember #32, don’t you? You know, “Take Olivia to the splash pad on Pearl Street Mall once she is walking. (Any day now.)” Well, my friends, that day has come. I know, I know. It’s not Pearl Street Mall. But, with only 16 days left of summer, I’m going to take what I can get.

Besides, homegirl is a walking machine! Bonus: she loves bath time. Obviously, when you combine those two things you get a child who will race into a splash pad all giggles and splashing.

    Or not.

This was about as close as she got on her own two feet. Even in Daddy’s arms she wasn’t quite sure at first.

She warmed up to it eventually, but never really toddled around like I was expecting.

Ah, well. There’s always next summer!

  4. Olivia’s First Birthday Party

    August 30, 2011 by frecklesandsunshine

This blog has been very Olivia-centric of late. It is her first birthday, and as her mother, I think the heavy rotation of posts about her is totally justifiable.

If, however, you are here for posts on food, crafts, hikes, or other random occurrences in our life, well just hang in there. Our regularly scheduled programming will return shortly.
